Sorry to break from the typical response form here I love these discussion threads to death. I wouldn't be surprised if that inspired some of this at all, as there's a pretty famous film adaptation that seems right up the alley of the kinds of art and cinema Kanye was known for appreciating around that time. Them all being in a castle isolated from everyone else reminds me a lot of Marquis de Sade's Salo: 120 Days of Solom, which was a critique on the attitude the ruling class had to the lives of those beneath them who used them solely as toys to be destroyed and discarded as seen fit, basking in hedonism and never once stopping to consider them as human beings equal in value or feeling. People are there to be used as objects, for pleasure, for decoration, their heads resting to be posed, their bodies theirs to use as they see fit.

Assuming this was intended to be a part of the Runaway movie, it's a good reflection of what makes the angel that fell from heaven he falls for all the more important and unique - full of life, color and sound, whereas all the women he's had as companions before have been, well, monsters at their liveliest and empty at their calmest. The video reflects this a lot as well - hollow, dead-looking people and crowds of vampiric/monstrous people trying to grab onto or leach off of the successful people presented. A large message of the album is that fulfillment comes from the inside, not the outside, and this is the point in that journey that reveals as much where you're trying to believe in the opposite thesis. It's as much a lie to the audience as it is to himself, only for that lie to come crumbling apart and toppling down not long after on the album. It's pretty much reveling the the hip-hop bravado and braggadocio, with lots of posturing and muscle-flexing, a chest-thumping display of success as a way of trying to cover up any inner weakness or insecurity. Monster is sort of basking in that ultimately soulless life before being repulsed by it and having the moment of clarity that a song like Runaway provides, the self-reflection found in Blame Game or the inner-awakening of Lost In the World. In context of the album, this comes right before So Appalled, a song that expresses deep disgust and discontent with - well, anything and everything in sight, but specifically the celebrity lifestyle. I think a big focus, like a lot of MBDTF and everything since, is on fame.
